1 Woolf, Virginia MRS. DALLOWAY
San Diego, CA Harvest Books 1990 0156628708 / 9780156628709 Later Printing Paperback Good+
Used in trade paperback. With a Foreword by Maureen Howard. Reading guide in the back. A tight, unmarked reading copy. Moderate to heavy bumping and curling to the corners. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 197 pages; This brilliant novel explores the hidden springs of thought and action in one day of a woman's life. Direct and vivid in her account of the details of Clarissa Dalloway's preparations for a party she is to give that evening, Woolf ultimately managed to reveal much more. For it is the feeling behind these daily events that gives Mrs. Dalloway its texture and richness and makes it so memorable. Foreword by Maureen Howard. MRS. DALLOWAY was the first novel to split the atom. If the novel before Mrs. Dalloway aspired to immensities of scope and scale, to heroic journeys across vast landscapes, with Mrs. Dalloway Virginia Woolf insisted that it could also locate the enormous within the everyday; that a life of errands and party-giving was every bit as viable a subject as any life lived anywhere; and that should any human act in any novel seem unimportant, it has merely been inadequately observed. The novel as an art form has not been the same since.

4 Woolf, Virginia TO THE LIGHTHOUSE
London Compact Books 1994 0749318724 / 9780749318727 Reprint Hardcover Very Good- in Very Good- dust jacket
Used in boards and DJ. Previous owner's gift inscription on the front endpaper; otherwise a clean and tight copy. Moderate ageing to the paper. Fading to the spine, slight edgewear to the DJ. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 224 pages; Novel by Virginia Woolf, published in 1927. The work is one of her most successful and accessible experiments in the stream-of-consciousness style. The three sections of the book take place between 1910 and 1920 and revolve around various members of the Ramsay family during visits to their summer residence on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. A central motif of the novel is the conflict between the feminine and masculine principles at work in the universe. With her emotional, poetical frame of mind, Mrs. Ramsay represents the female principle, while Mr. Ramsay, a self-centered philosopher, expresses the male principle in his rational point of view. Both are flawed by their limited perspectives. A painter and friend of the family, Lily Briscoe, is Woolf's vision of the androgynous artist who personifies the ideal blending of male and female qualities. Her successful completion of a painting that she has been working on since the beginning of the novel is symbolic of this unification. -- The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature --
